TOO HOT FOR ICE! West Logan Hockey Club.

What is Inline Hockey? Inline Hockey is a sport similar to ice hockey but played with inline skates. Like ice hockey, skaters on two teams use hockey sticks to direct a disk shaped puck into the opponent’s goal. Unlike ice hockey, inline hockey is a non-contact sport. The playing surface can be bitumen, concrete or wooden floors, making it more accessible than ice hockey. Inline Hockey is most popular in areas with indoor artificial inline hockey rinks which make it a year-round amateur sport. It can however be played anywhere where a large, appropriately surfaced and preferably enclosed venue can be found (eg Tennis court).

Who can play? Boys and girls as young as 6 years old can play in organised competition. Younger children are able to participate in the “Learn to play Inline Hockey Program” dependent upon their skating ability. Boys and girls play together in all age groups. In the junior league the age groups are:

10 & Under 12 & Under 14 & Under 17 & Under There is also an adult league, where again men and women play as equals. Teams are categorised into ability levels and play other teams of the ability level (eg B Grade, A Grade and AA Grade).

What do you need to play? All players, at all levels need to be a member of Skate Australia. This covers all members for insurance. The “Learn to play Inline Hockey Program” requires children participating to have their own inline skates. All other equipment is supplied. Members playing in a competitive league are required to supply their own equipment. This would encompass: uniform helmet stick gloves elbow guards knee guards Where are games played? Games are played at Digi Roller Skating Rink. Games are free to watch. Junior season runs March to September King of the Rink tournament run 1st weekend in March each year State Titles June / July School holidays each year Nationals September / October school holidays each year Senior Information is as follows: 2 seasons per year Jan / Feb to July / August July / August to December Senior Divisions are AA Division A Division B Division Run as follows: Tuesday night D2 Snr A 6.30 to 9.30pm Tuesday night D1 Snr A & AA 7pm to 10pm Wednesday night D2 Snr B 6.30 to 8.30pm
